About Karimunjawa.com

An independent guide to the Karimunjawa Islands, written to be useful before you go and honest about what can go wrong.

Karimunjawa.com exists to help you plan a trip to one of Java’s least-known corners: how to get across the water, when the boats do and do not run, what to do on the islands, what to bring, and how to fit it into a wider journey through Central Java.

What we cover

  • Every route to the islands — fast boat, car ferry and flights — with realistic times and clear caveats.
  • Island hopping, snorkelling and diving, beaches, viewpoints and the mangrove boardwalk.
  • The practical realities: cash, electricity, connectivity, health and seasons.
  • Where to stay, with real properties and their guest scores.
  • The mainland gateways — Jepara, Semarang, Borobudur and Yogyakarta.

How we research

Schedules, journey times and prices are checked against operators, booking platforms and official sources, and reviewed regularly. Tour ratings and review counts come directly from GetYourGuide; hotel scores from Trip.com. Where a figure moves around — ferry timetables, fares, park fees — we give a range and tell you to confirm it, rather than pretend to a precision that does not exist.

We also say when the evidence is thin. Karimunjawa has few products on international booking sites, and several have little or no review history. We list only real ones and mark the unproven clearly.

Where we take a position

We advise against visiting the captive-shark pools, for reasons set out on our Menjangan islands page. We ask readers not to stand on coral, feed fish or pressure boat crews to sail in bad weather. A guide to a national park should be on the side of the park.

How the site is funded

We are a GetYourGuide affiliate partner and link to Trip.com for accommodation. If you book through a link on this site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. There is no advertising and no paid placement in any ranking. Read the full affiliate disclosure.

Corrections

Boats change timetables, airlines add and drop routes, prices rise. If something here is out of date, please tell us through the contact page — we would rather fix it than defend it.
