The Best Karimunjawa Tours

Twenty bookable tours and transfers, ranked by how much they actually improve the trip.

We rank these on four things: the quality of the experience, how well it fits a real Karimunjawa itinerary, value for money, and what travellers say afterwards. Ratings and review counts come straight from GetYourGuide.

A caveat we would rather state than hide: the islands are thinly covered on GetYourGuide. Only one island product has a substantial number of reviews, and several packages have none yet. We have ranked those lower and marked them clearly. The mainland tours near the bottom of the list — Borobudur, Semarang, Yogyakarta — are there because most visitors combine them with the islands, and they are very well reviewed.

  1. Best overall

Snorkelling & Island-Hopping Tour Karimunjawa (Sharing Tour)

    🕒 8 hours 📍 Karimunjawa town ⭐ 4.8 (40) 💵 from $24

The one island product with a meaningful track record — 4.8 from dozens of reviews — and it is exactly the day you came for: snorkelling stops, a barbecue lunch on a beach and sunset on the way back. At around US$24 a head it is also the cheapest thing on this list worth a whole day.

    🕒 8 hours 📍 Karimunjawa town ⭐ 5.0 (4) 💵 from $126 per group

Same route, your own boat. Worth it for families and groups, for an early start ahead of the crowds, and for the freedom to leave out the shark pool and stay longer on the reef. A perfect score so far, from a small number of reviews.

How to use this list

If you only book one thing, book the shared island-hopping boat. If you are a family or a group, upgrade to the private one. If the journey worries you more than the islands do, book a private car to Jepara and a refundable hotel there the night before.

About the shark pool. Some island-hopping itineraries include a stop at the captive-shark pools on Menjangan Besar. We recommend skipping it — see why. Tell your crew at the start of the day; on a private boat, say so when you book.

For everything else — which route to take across the water, when the boats do not run, how much cash to carry — see getting to Karimunjawa and the travel guide.

Best tours: FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is the single best tour in Karimunjawa?

A full-day island-hopping and snorkelling boat. Everything else on the islands — beaches, viewpoints, mangroves — you can do independently by scooter.

Shared or private boat?

Shared if you are one or two people and happy with a fixed route. Private if you are three or more, travelling with children, want to avoid crowded stops or want to choose the islands yourself.

Is a package better than travelling independently?

Independent travel is cheaper and not difficult if you have time. A package is worth it when you are short of days, do not want to handle boat tickets and hotels, or are travelling in a holiday period when things sell out.
